Montreal Ocean Steamship Company, also known as the Allan Line, was a major shipping line based in Montreal. The “Canadian” government granted the company the Atlantic mail contract in 1855. The following year, the Allan Royal Mail Line started regularly scheduled sailings every two weeks between Liverpool and Quebec City and Montreal.
