My great uncle, James McKenzie was killed at Ypres in 1915. His son James, born in 1910, sailed from Glasgow to Quebec on the Metagama on 3rd July 1925. He arrived into Canada on 11th July 1925 and his story from there is completely unknown to our family. We know he lived in Ontario until at least 1950 as he sent a parcel back to Scotland around that time. I have included the photo he sent back of himself.

Thank you so much for this information. I can hopefully use this to further my research on James’ life in Canada. It’s slightly reassuring that he remained with the same family for some years. Hopefully this means he was fairly happy and content with his life at that time.

The Juvenile Inspection Report for James shows the places he lived for the first few years he was in Canada. When he completed the program in 1928, he was living in Birdsalls, Ontario about 30km from Peterboro[ugh] with a farmer named Geo. Clysdale where he had been for about 2 years.
The 1935 voters list above from the Peterborough area, has George Clysdale and family and a James McKenzie, labourer, as well. This may be the same James.
