There is a Henry Toovey who lived in London, Ontario, born London, England who was married to a Barbara Wilson? They had two babies who died premature. The first baby of this couple was born Dec. 1919 which means that the man who had the fractured skull is likely a different Henry Toovey and not the one you are looking for as yours had not arrived in Canada by that time.

A search of Newspapers.com has found the following article in “The Windsor Star” dated 17 Sep 1925, Page 20:
SKULL IS FRACTURED
HAMILTON, Sept. 17. – The condition of Harry Toovey, London, Ont., C. N. R. employee, who suffered a fractured skull in a fall at the Stuart street station Tuesday, is about the same. His recovery is looked for, although his condition is serious.
I wonder if this could be the same fellow?

From your story it is unclear if you know whether he stayed in Montreal or went on to western Canada. Or was it weeks or months that his mother received letters?
